Low Carbohydrate Diets Information Page

For the last year I have followed a high-protein, low-carbohydrate eating plan at my doctors recommendation. In that time, I have lost 25+ pounds, dropped my cholesterol 34 points and brought my blood pressure back down to normal. You can click here for my Before and After pictures.

Basically, this diet allows me to eat all the protein I want (or can) while cutting out sugars and starches. No potatoes, bread, rice, corn, peas, etc... but lots of steak, eggs, salad and cream. And one other detail: I eat when I am hungry, until I am full. You don't count calories or fats - only carbohydrates. So, what exactly does a low-carb eating plan entail? Here are some typical menu choices for me:

Breakfast Lunch
2 fried eggs, 3 strips bacon, decaf with heavy cream Chicken Caesar Salad
Protein shake with crystal light and heavy cream 2 fish filets with a side salad and sugar free jello
3 egg omelet with swiss cheese and mushrooms Chicken breast and broccoli with alfredo sauce
Dinner Snacks
Rib Eye Steak, side salad, burgundy mushrooms A handful of macadamia nuts
Chicken Cordon Blue with Asparagus A few chunks of cheese
Almond-rolled chicken breast, broccoli with cheese Low-Carb chocolate

There are several low-carb eating plans that you can consider if you are thinking about going low-carb. Just to name a few there are Atkins, Protein Power, Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, Sugar-Busters and NeanderThin. Some of these diets are ketogenic and some are not. A ketogenic diet is one which puts your body into ketosis or fat-burning mode. Non-ketogenic low-carb diets can be based on insulin control, or the change in human culture over the last 3000 years.

Below are some resources I have found for a low-carb lifestyle on the Internet. These pages include a wealth of information for anyone considering low-carb, including recipes, hard data, plateau busters and before/after pictures. Some of the stores are absolutely startling. At the LowCarb Texas Link, you can join a mailing list of over 200 low-carbers to get questions answered, support on your journey, or smart-alec comebacks for all the low-fatters you will encounter along the way. This list is the one information source I could not do without. To subscribe to the Texas Low-Carb mailing list, send an e-mail to txlowcarb@painpals.com with the word "SUBCRIBE" in the subject.
